Important tips to keep in mind before taking a tour of the Silk Road

If you want to take a trip on the Silk Road, we suggest that you plan your trip any time between May and October. In summer, the temperature is quite high and winters are quite freezing. However, the landscape is extremely beautiful in May. So, you can enjoy the scenery and not face extreme temperatures.

Things to consider when preparing for the trip

Although May is not too hot for your tour, know that the weather along the route varies significantly. Some areas are quite cold while others are dry. The city of Turpan, for example, can reach 40 degrees in August. In January, it can face minus 20 degrees. So, below are the things you should pack before you leave:

Take thick and thin clothes
Buy comfortable shoes
Get personal items like toiletries and dental floss.
Use sunscreen and tanning oil to combat sunburn.
Bring a first aid kit too
But carrying too much luggage is not a good idea, as it can create problems for you during your trip.

Accommodation

Since the Silk Road stretches across most of China, you can find different levels of accommodation, such as simple guest houses and luxury hotels. Depending on your budget, you can choose the right type of accommodation.

Food

You can see conventional Chinese food during your tour in different restaurants. Little restaurants and night markets are the best places if you want to enjoy your favorite snacks. However, be sure to check hygiene before entering a restaurant.

It is important to note that you can find different nationalities during your tour. They will have their own taste for food and drinks.

In the northwest part of China, many people drink tea with meals or snacks. Similarly, people have fruit juice, beer, and cola. However, you can try local drinks such as milk, frozen yogurt, and kumiss.

Visit temples

If you travel along the Silk Road, you may come across many temples. There are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you enjoy a pleasant tour of some popular temples.

If you want to address a monk, you can use the terms “fashi” or “shi”. The same titles are used for Taoists. In the same way, “chanshi”, “fangzhang” and “zhanglao” are used for Ruler Monk.

You must have proper manners when you meet monks. For example, you should lower your head and put your palms together when you see a monk. It is considered sacrilegious to touch, hug or shake the hand of a monk.

When it comes to talking points, you can’t talk about eating meat, getting married, and killing. Similarly, religion and politics are not very good subjects either.

While visiting a temple, do not try to touch a religious artifact. During a religious ceremony, you must remain silent.

Lastly, make sure that the temple you are visiting allows both genders.

In summary, here are some things to keep in mind before taking a tour of the Silk Road.
